California Dreaming

With things up in the air at the moment with a member of our tremendous trio, I’ve been spending more time looking at mine and Adam’s 18-months around Asia and Australasia than focusing on our month-long adventure in Western USA this time next year. But, after a friend who’s looking to fly down from Canada (where he’s moving to at the end of next month) to join us asked after it at this weekend’s wedding, I’ve been looking to revisit our plans.

Below is what we’ve put together so far. What do you think?

Day 1: Fly into LAX, before heading down to San Diego, CA via either the coast train or car

  • Anywhere to sped less time?
  • Good places to stay?
  • Good places to visit?
  • Things not to miss?
  • Anywhere not to bother with?

Especially from any locals!

  1. Wow! That’s a lot to do in a month! I’m afraid I don’t know that area of the United States very well, so I don’t have any good recommendations, but I look forward to reading about your adventures.

    1. Haha. We like to squeeze a lot in! When we did Europe last year we did about 12 countries in about three weeks! But Adam’s pushing it getting that much holiday in one go as it is. That’s why were looking forward to havAhh, I was hoping you’d have some tips for me ;). Though I am aware (now more than ever) of how vast USA is. My friends are doing a week in new york and a week in San Francisco for their honeymoon and I don’t think they realised the flight between the two is almost the same as the flight from the UK! Loved your post on Shakespeare in the park BTW. It sounds amazing!

      1. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the Shakespeare post – it was such a fun event. It is true that the U.S. is vast – I’ve been to 35 states, but not many in the West. I have visited San Francisco before. I really enjoyed going out to Alcatraz, the site of the old prison. And I also recommend having freshly steamed Dungeness Crab at Fisherman’s Wharf, if you like seafood. Don’t spend the money on it at a sit-down restaurant though, as the prices are very high. The real experience is getting one at one of the outdoor places, and then standing at a tall outdoor table eating it. Messy but delicious! Aside from that, I’m afraid I have no other suggestions.
